Top Dressing & Overseeding

Top dressing involves the application of organic top soil and premium grass seed over the surface of your lawn. This will promote new grass growth and  deliver beneficial nutrients for a thicker, healthier lawn.

A top dressing treatment can be done on the entire lawn area, or only for a certain section. For example, we can top dress and overseed an area damaged by machinery or equipment, heavy traffic areas etc.

You can try to do your own topdressing and seeding treatment but professional intervention is best. Not only is spreading soil over your entire lawn backbreaking work, but Maggio has access to superior lawn seed and soil, providing the best results.

You can definitely have an overseeding service completed without the addition of soil. However, for severely thin lawns or lawn damage – the addition of soil will provide better results.

You can also add overseeding to your annual fall aeration treatment. Pairing overseeding with aeration can also improve growth.

A standard topdressing and overseeding treatment only adds about 1/4″ to 1/2″ of soil to the surface of the lawn – which is not enough to fill in divots in the lawn.

Maggio uses premium grass seed with the fastest germination time – often sprouting within 1-2 weeks. It can take up to 6 weeks for full results. In some cases, more then one seeding application will be required.

The best time for topdressing and overseeding is in the spring or fall.

However, as long as watering is adjusted according to temperature and drought, you can do a topdressing and overseeding treatment any time of year.
