CRABGRASS CONTROL

What Is Crabgrass?

Crabgrass is an aggressive, annual wild grass – meaning it will re-grow from its seed each spring. Crabgrass typically first appears along the edges of pavement and quickly spreads to take over your lawn.

Crab grass is lime green, leaving your lawn looking inconsistent in colour. In the fall, it will die off leaving behind unwanted bare patches that are susceptible to weed growth.

How To Identify Crabgrass

  • Rolled stems, wide blades
  • Lime green colour
  • Stems may be reddish-purple
  • Grow outward, star shaped pattern
  • Grow in patches on lawn or edges of walkways

How To Control Crabgrass

  • Professional crabgrass control application every spring before it germinates
  • Lawn program to promote a thick lawn
  • Proper watering and mowing habits
  • Annual aeration and overseeding

Does Regular Weed Control Kill Crabgrass?

Unfortunately regular weed control does not affect crabgrass since crabgrass is actually a grass and not a weed.

Crabgrass can only be treated with a professional corn gluten application in the spring. Crabgrass control must be applied before the seeds germinate in the spring. This means once you see it on your lawn it’s too late to treat for that year.
