Grubs are very common lawn problem. But you might be wondering, how do I know if I have grubs on my lawn?

If you live in Ontario and have a lawn – you likely have grubs. Grubs can multiply quickly and will completely destroy your lawn if left untreated. Sometimes the damage is so extensive, it requires total lawn replacement.

Learn how to detect the signs of grubs so you can act quickly and prevent severe damage.

Tell-tale signs you have grubs

1. Weirdly shaped dead patches on your lawn

During certain times of root feeding, the larvae will go into hyperdrive, feeding on your lawn quickly and erratically, sometimes leaving dead patches in odd shapes on your lawn.

2. Critters digging up your lawn

Grubs will not only cause the grass to wilt and die but they will also attract animals like moles, birds, skunks or raccoons to tear up your lawn looking for the grubs as a food source.

5. You visibly see grubs

It may seem obvious but doing a visual check for grubs or beetles is a good way to be sure. Beetles will likely hang out on the surface of grass, whereas grubs will be slightly below – which means you’ll have to look just beneath the green of your grass in the first layer of soil.
